OVERVIEW

Safe Harbor is a 24/7 residential and faith-based program that empowers women toward healing and equips them with life skills for quality living.

Located in the heart of Springfield, Ohio, Safe Harbor currently consists of two homes – Safe Harbor House (focusing on trauma treatment) and The Lighthouse (focused on transition and support). We provide a safe place for women who find themselves at the intersection of substance use disorders and various kinds of trauma, including:

  • Physical, emotional, or sexual abuse

  • Domestic Violence

  • Sex Trafficking

  • Homelessness

The complexity of the issues facing the women at Safe Harbor necessitates an approach that deals with these challenges from every possible angle.

HISTORY

Safe Harbor House was started as the first initiative of SiFi Ministry, Inc. Joy Fagan had been teaching women’s ministry classes at a local Christian university for 15 years when she volunteered to become a chaplain at the Clark County Jail. Hearing the stories of women whose lives had been shattered by various traumatic events, as well as by drug and alcohol abuse, she was moved to begin a home where these women could experience healing and be equipped to become contributing members of their community. The board of directors began meeting in 2009 and the first participants were accepted in January 2012.
